Conexant's CX24611 is a next-generation home networking
solution that uses existing telephone lines to connect
multiple PCs, peripherals and other devices. This solution
complies with the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance
(HomePNA) 2.0 specification, and supports 10 Mbps
operation -- offering speeds comparable with 10BaseT
Ethernet, without the expense or effort of installing additional
network wiring. The CX24611 is the first single-chip home-
networking physical-layer device (PHY) with an analog front
end (AFE) that can be easily integrated into a variety of devices
including DSL and cable modems, residential gateways,
firewalls, routers, switches, PCs and embedded products such
as Internet and multimedia appliances.
Packaged as a 100-pin thin quad flat pack (TQFP), the device
implements receiver and transmitter functions for HomePNA 2.0.
The CX24611 features a media independent interface (MII) that
provides superior flexibility for system manufacturers, allowing
them to integrate home-networking functionality into any device
with an IEEE 802.3 media access controller (MAC). This device
is a significant building block for the digital home.
