Product Overview
Take your product from concept to reality with the
Philips' TwoChipHCG
TM
* Development Kit. This hard-
ware platform allows you to focus your attention
on the software and system integration issues. The
TwoChipHCG Development Kit includes everything
you need to test software, analyze various peripheral
controllers and control the basic functions of your
Microsoft Windows CE
-based system.
To expedite your product design, the latest version of the
Windows CE operating system is preloaded in the systems'
Flash memory, as well as complete software drivers and the
OEM Adaptation Layer (OAL). Also included, is Philips'
unique V.34bis (33.6Kbps) software modem which allows
you to efficiently test communication applications.
Serial ports, an infrared transceiver, Concentration
Highway Interface (CHI) port, Pager port, PCMCIA slots
and a parallel connection offer you an array of options for
connecting various peripherals or attaching to your work-
station to easily upload and download code. Philips also
supplies the electronic schematics for this reference design.
When combined with the development kits modular-
based layout, you are able to quickly isolate those
sections that can be simply copied and those that need
to be modified.
Microsoft Windows CE
The Software Development Kit (SDK) and the Device
Driver Kit (DDK) are part of the Microsoft Visual C++
development system. These software tools allow you to
develop applications and device drivers. Philips gives you
a complete set of standard drivers: LCD display, IrDA,
serial, PCMCIA, power management, audio in/out, key-
board, touchscreen and modem drivers, interrupt service
routine, booting code, plus RTC and timer with source
code upon completion of a sublicense contract and
ownership of Microsoft's OEM Adaptation Kit (OAK).

allow power-load testing under multiple conditions

Philips' TwoChipHCG Development Kit provides a complete system that
features a high level of integration and superior performance. Not shown
is the v.34bis (33Kbps) modem which is implemented and controlled
through software. The actual Development Kit shipped may differ slightly
in appearance than the board shown in the photograph.

Board modularity and electronics schematics give
designers an easy path for present and future develop-
ment. Design blocks and sub modules can be isolated
and tested individually.

with questions regarding this reference design.
With Philips supplying the hardware abstraction layer,
device drivers and a complete reference design, and
Microsoft supplying the Visual C++ toolchain, Windows
CE SDK, DDK, EDK and OAK, you have a complete set
of dynamic tools for creating your next successful product.
Contents of the TwoChipHCG Development Kit
Hardware:
a "modular" board; LCD, touch screen, and speaker unit; keyboard
and parallel/serial board; AC/DC power adapter and power cord. Main refer-
ence board includes 8 MB Flash memory, 4 MB DRAM memory, EPROM and
multiple connectors. RJ11 phone jack also provided.
Software: Windows CE operating system in Flash for demonstration,
Windows CE operating system binary and diagnostics software. Windows
CE driver image files (driver source code** supplied following purchase of
Development Kit and signing driver software agreement).

Core Guide and PR31700 Data Sheet; UCB1200 Data Sheet; Diagnostic
Manual and Functional test check list; PIC II Board Operational User's Manual,
board specifications and Hardware Architecture Manual with schematic and Bill

**Developer must possess OAK before Philips can release these items.
Microsoft Distribution Supplies
Visual C++: Integrated Development Environment, which is not
Windows CE specific.
Windows CE Software Developers Kit (SDK): Windows CE-specific tools,
including compilers. Available from select distributors. Also for vendors
developing Windows CE-specific applications.
Windows CE Device Driver Kit (DDK): Windows CE-specific device driver
sample code (PeRP specific). Intended for hardware vendors for specific periph-
erals such as PCMCIA cards.
Windows CE OEM Adaptation Kit (OAK): Tools specific for producing
Windows CE images, including all components of the Windows CE operating
system: kernel, libraries (DLLs), GDI (shell), etc.
**Developer must possess OAK before Philips can release the above items.
